Insignia Health offers a suite of products that work together to enable greater consumer health activation. This product portfolio starts with the Patient Activation Measure™ self-assessment tool.
Patient Activation Measure™
The Patient Activation Measure™ (PAM™) self-assessment tool, developed by Dr. Judy Hibbard and colleagues at the University of Oregon, assesses the knowledge, skills and confidence for managing one’s own health and healthcare. The PAM™ tool, available in chronic, non-chronic, mental health and Spanish versions, segments consumers into one of four progressively higher activation levels. Each level is associated with distinct preventive, consumeristic and self-care behaviors. The basic characteristics of each level are briefly outlined below.

Measurement Properties
The PAM™ tool was developed using both qualitative and quantitative research methods, Rasch analysis, and classical test theory psychometric methods. The resulting metric, is a unidimensional, interval level, Guttman-style scale. Extensive research in many diverse populations confirms the PAM™ tool's strong measurement properties, including reliability and content, construct, and criterion validity.
Application of the PAM™ Tool
The PAM™ instrument is reliable and valid for use with both patients managing a wide range of chronic illnesses and for those with no chronic illness. The PAM™ tool has been found to be useful wherever the patient has a significant role to play in managing their health. The insights gained with the PAM™ tool can be used for predictive modeling, population segmentation, the individual tailoring of care support, and in the evaluation of program efficacy. Organizations using the PAM™ tool today span the healthcare sector and include noted research organizations, pharmaceutical firms, health plans, disease management and wellness firms, government agencies, hospitals, and clinics.
PAM™ Online Suite
The PAM™ self management assessment tool and related administrative resources is available in both paper format and through an online suite. The online program provides for survey administration, automated measurement and reporting, and data warehousing. Key features of the online suite are outlined below.
