Activation Starts with Measurement
The Patient Activation Measure™ (PAM™) survey assesses the knowledge, skills and confidence integral to managing one's own health and healthcare. With the ability to measure activation and uncover related insights into consumer self-management abilities, care support and education can be more effectively tailored to help individuals become better self managers.
Four Levels of Activation
The PAM assessment tool segments consumers into one of four progressively higher levels of activation. Each level provides insight into an array of health-related attitudes, emotions, and motivators, as well as the performance of a wide range of health behaviors.

Self-Management Assessment and Much More
The performance of more than 130 behaviors have been mapped to a PAM survey score and level of activation, offering a wealth of insight into an individual's self-management capabilities. This information is incorporated into Insignia's coaching support (Coaching for Activation™) and consumer facing products, offering pivotal insights into how to approach behavior change opportunities.

Survey Design
The PAM survey is a unidimensional, interval level, Guttman-style survey developed through Rasch analysis and classical test theory psychometric methods. it is unidimensional in that it measures an overarching construct - being in charge of one's own health. As such, the PAM survey is not designed to assess behaviors in isolation, but instead recognizes that people who feel 'in charge' of their health engage in a whole constellation of behaviors.
