Susan Prows, PhD, MPH

Training & Research. Susan brings to Insignia a unique blend of experience from academia, public policy and commercial endeavors.  She teaches an introductory public health course to undergraduate students at Western Oregon University. Before joining Insignia, Susan served as Research Director and Program Manager for Oregon Health & Science University’s Program for Medical Innovation. In 2007 and 2008 she served as a faculty member for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q) initiative — providing research and technical assistance to the 14 grantee communities throughout the US.

Susan previously worked as the Senior Director of Research & Policy at FACCT – Foundation for Accountability. In this position she directed the consumer research division and led the RWJF funded CompareYourCare™ program.

In the policy arena, Susan served as the Director of Health Policy Research for former Oregon Governor, John Kitzhaber and his highly regarded administration. In this role, Susan’s efforts were integral to the monitoring and evaluation strategies for the Oregon Health Plan and led efforts to measure health care access and quality via the Oregon Population Survey.

In 1998, Susan received the Top Prof award from Oregon State University and was honored with a President’s Award from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for her original research in maternal smoking cessation and incentivized social supports.

Susan earned an MPH from Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst School of Public Health.
